Celeste Headlee’s brilliant TED talk points out the 10 things we should do to improve our communication skills. A study in America found that people are more separated than ever and Celeste states that a reason for this is that people aren’t listening to one another. She says that listening is the most important aspect of having a conversation because it means we are learning. However, she also says that, because of modern technology and online communication, people have lost the ability to listen. So, in order to flight this, Celeste describes 10 skills we could work on to become better speakers.
First, here are some things for you to think about;
How many messages do you send each day? Do you feel more comfortable communicating through messaging apps? Do you ever feel you are unable to focus on a conversation because you’re distracted by your mobile?
What do you think you could do to have a better conversation? Does it depend on the topic or on the person you’re speaking to? Is it possible to have a good conversation with someone who has opposite opinions to you?
We’re always interested in what you have to say. Comment and share to join the conversation – we’re listening.
